Why does the flag have 50 stars?
Accepted answers:
- Because there is one star for each state
- Because each star represents a state
- Because there are 50 states
Why this is the correct answer
As the United States grew and new states were admitted to the union, the flag was updated to reflect that growth. Today's flag has fifty stars, one for each of the fifty states, with the most recent star added in 1960 after Hawaii became the 50th state.
