The President of the United States can serve only two terms. Why?
Accepted answers:
- Because of the 22nd Amendment
- To keep the president from becoming too powerful
Why this is the correct answer
Before 1951, no law limited how many terms a president could serve. Franklin Roosevelt's four-term presidency led Congress and the states to ratify the 22nd Amendment, which caps presidential service at two terms so no individual can accumulate too much executive power.
