Why does each state have two senators?
Accepted answers:
- Equal representation for small states
- The Great Compromise (Connecticut Compromise)
Why this is the correct answer
Equal representation in the Senate was established through the Great Compromise of 1787, also called the Connecticut Compromise. Delegates to the Constitutional Convention agreed that each state would have two senators to satisfy smaller states who feared being overpowered. This compromise was essential to getting all states to approve the new Constitution.
