Government and the LawElections

What is preferential voting in Australia?

  1. Voting by postal ballot only
  2. Ranking candidates in order of preference so that votes are redistributed until one candidate has a majority
  3. Voting for your preferred candidate only

Why this is the correct answer

Preferential voting asks voters to number candidates from most to least preferred, so if no one wins a majority on the first count, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated and their votes are redistributed. This continues until one candidate has more than half the votes.
